Music producer Jermaine Dupri is on a mission to bring back The Rat Pack vibe.
Dupri, Janet Jackson’s longtime beau, wants to see Las Vegas return to the era when the coolest dudes in town wore tuxes and suits.
He has recruited Usher and Nelly into a group Dupri has dubbed “Ocean’s 7,” after the Rat Pack movie, “Ocean’s Eleven,” starring Frank Sinatra (as Danny Ocean), Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford.
“Las Vegas is begging for a new breath of energy,” Dupri told me in a telephone interview. “I think a lot of people want to see Vegas go back to what it was.”
Dupri, usually in a white tuxedo with a black bow tie, and his crew have been the talk of the Las Vegas club scene, with their impromptu singing performances, a la the Rat Pack.
He’s hoping to add Bow Wow and “the right girl to play the Ocean’s Girl. The big debate with Bow Wow is that he won’t dress up. He’s 21,” said Dupri.
Others in the group include music producer Bryan-Michael Cox, singer/songwriter Trey Songz and four-time Grammy winner Johnta Austin (”the Sinatra of the group,” said Dupri), and Tyrone Davis, Dupri’s personal assistant.
The new-image idea came together earlier this year when Dupri was producing Usher’s new album at the Palms recording studios. Somebody in the group wore a suit one night, an d a couple nights later “everybody came in all dressed up and we all went to Lavo. It felt nice.”
Dupri’s mix tape of the group comes out Friday at www.global14.com. Dupri has big plans for “Ocean’s 7:an album, a movie and “the ultimate is a show in Vegas.”

Rihanna Will Be Forced To Testify

According to TMZ:

Rihanna's lawyer just said the D.A. told him his client will be subpoenaed at the next court hearing.

Donald Etra said Rihanna will be called to the stand to testify at Chris Brown's preliminary hearing on June 22.

Etra says his client will cooperate and take the stand. It's not at all unexpected that the alleged victim would be called to the stand in a prelim.

Also today, the judge rejected a motion made by Chris Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, asking for an order requiring the LAPD to ante up info regarding leaks in the case.

A paparazzi filed a lawsuit against Chris Brown saying the singer was involved in an incident on a Los Angeles basketball court back in March. The suit if for assault and battery, false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence and premises liability.

Album Review: Eminem's Relapse

I bought Eminem's "Relapse" last night and two words come to mind: HES BACK!

Before I get into all that, we know Em did a stint in Rehab last year, right? The album itself is based on that. On the front, its a picture of his face scrambled in pills, but when u open it, the cd had the words "push down and turn" on it, and its white like the top of a medicine bottle. Then, when u take the cd out, you see pills, like the inside of the medicine bottle. On the back of the cd, its an actual prescription bag with the list of the songs (20 in total). Also, he has lyrics inside of the cd booklet for every song. Who even does that anymore? Good move, Em. On the back of the booklet, he has a tribute to Proof, letting proof know he loves him and that he would be proud that Em is sober.

Now, onto the music.

I listened to his album the whole way through. And I truly believe it should go platinum, if not 2x platinum. The first song that I was attracted to was "My Mom". Its a song about his mother being the reason he was addicted to pills. That song reminds me of the older Em, back in his Slim Shady LP days. The chorus is catchy, too, not to mention the beat. The song right after entitled "Insane" is VERY vulgar. He talks about child raping and molestation among other things and they way he puts it literally made my mouth drop. This song, in my opinion is where he showcases his lyricism. "BagPipes From Baghdad" is the infamous song where he gets at Mariah-alot. In the song "Same Song And Dance", he pokes fun at female celebs that have been in rehab, too (Britney, Lindsay, etc). "Beautiful" is a more softer song. It contains excerpts of "Reaching Out" by Queen & Paul Rogers and is really a song about how he sometimes wishes people could walk in his shoes and feel his pain.

Truth be told, Eminem is one of the greatest rappers of all time. In my opinion, he should go platinum. Last artist to do that was Weezy and his album is nowhere near in comparison to Em's Relapse.

All in all, "Relapse" gets 5 mics from me.

The NY Post reports that Rihanna and Aubrey "Drake" Graham were getting VERY comfortable with each other during an outing at Lucky Strikes bowling alley in Manhattan, NYC. A spy says she was drinking whiskey and apple juice, so most likely the spy was the one serving the drinks to Rihanna.

Kandyyams says: Rihanna is doin TOO DAMN MUCH. She acts like she dont wanna be in the spotlight, but is doing extra stuff like leaking naked pictures *cough* and being out on the town kissing on people. First Andrew Bynum, now Drake? Pssh!

Yesterday, Atlanta rapper "Dolla", (real name Roderick Anthony Burton), was shot and killed while shopping at the Los Angeles Beverley Center.

Dolla and a friend were just minding their business shopping in the popular Los Angeles mall when someone ran up on him and shot him in the head. He died immediately.

The shooter fled the scene of the crime. But, last night, police picked up a 20 year old suspect trying to flee at Los Angeles airport. The suspect, named Aubery Berry, was found carrying a 9mm handgun – the same caliber as the gun that killed Dolla.

No comment on this story. Smh.

Rap legend Rev Run's teenaged son Joseph Simmons Jr. was arrested tonight for possession of marijuana.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the 19-year old was seen allegedly buying the marijuana and rolling a joint while sitting in a car on Manhattan's Upper West Side. We're told he tried to get away by throwing his car into reverse, and nearly backed into the officer's car.

Simmons Jr, known as JoJo on the MTV reality show "Run's House", was also booked for resisting arrest, attempted reckless endangerment, and criminal use of drug paraphenalia.

Ny Daily News Says: "Swine Flu Crisis Was Hogwash"

So, I was reading the Daily News earlier and came across this story about the Swine Flu. Apparently, its no different than "a garden variety influenza".

To quote the article:

"Relax. It's time to wash your hands of the swine-flu fears. The nation's top public health official said yesterday there are positive signs that the swine flu is no more severe than garden-variety influenza.

'We're seeing encouraging signs that this virus, so far, is not looking more severe than a strain we're seeing during seasonal flu," Richard Besser acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said on "Fox News Sunday."

Besser said swine flu is producing far milder symptoms than the 1918 outbreak of Spanish Flu, which killed up to 50 million people.

His comments came as Mexico's health secretary Jose' Angel Cordova, said that the recent outbreak has peaked in his country and is declining. The swine flu virus (which has killed 22 people in Mexico-not the 150 initially reported-and sickened at least 568), reached a peak between April 22 and April 28.

'In New York State, there are 96 confirmed and probable cases', said the state's health commissioner, Dr. Richard Daines.

Overseas, however, fears are still running rampant:

The WHO (World Health Organization) warned that history shows the virus (swine flu) has the potential to come back in the fall. 'I would like to remind people that in 1918, the Spanish Flu showed a surge in the spring and then disappeared in the summer months-only to return in the autumn of 1918 with a vengeance", said WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl.

The CDC reported 245 cases in 35 US states with one death, a 22-month-old child who had traveled from Mexico. The federal health agency says 36,000 people die of the regular flu every year."

SO- with that said, swine flu is merely a diff type of flu. No higher risk than regular influenza's, so everybody, relax on the masks.
